Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
Institute of Computer Science

Chair for Software Engineering,
Heinz-Nixdorf Endowed Chair of Practical Computer Science and
Artificial Intelligence Work Group

The research groups at the department of computer science of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena focus their work on the development of a flexible and generic communication and data platform supporting rescue teams in action.   For this purpose the groups will contribute expertise from five different fields: distributed systems, mobile software and platforms, service orientation, workflows, and planning.

The team at the Chair of Software Engineering managed by Professor Rossak will focus on the application of mobile software agents to improve communication issues as well as to process tasks autonomously in a distributed environment. Automatic discovery, composing, binding and execution of services based on semantic service descriptions will be targeted by the team around the Heinz-Nixdorf Endowed Chair held by Professor König-Ries. And the working group for artificial intelligence managed by Professor Beckstein will contribute its expertise in adaptive workflow planning and knowledge representation.
